Beginning Quilting Class

Come learn the basics of quilting while constructing a small baby quilt.  You will leave this class knowing how to choose and use thread, needles, cutters and rules, and how to choose the best fabrics for your project.  You will learn how to construct a nine patch and half square triangle blocks and how strip piecing makes block construction easy and fast!  All of this is done while meeting new people and enjoying being a part of the quilt community in a small group.  Space is limited so sign up soon!  Only 8 seats available.

Our first class will meet without our sewing machines
A sewing machine in good working order and the manual
¼”presser foot or know how to move the needle for a ¼” seam allowance
Walking foot (optional)
Size 80/12 needles
100% Cotton grey or beige thread – I recommend Aurifil thread
Straight pins
Rotary cutter, ruler and mat
6 ½” x 12” acrylic ruler with 45 degree line on it
Creative Grids 9” seam guide
45 or 60 mm rotary cutter with a sharp blade

Fabric Requirements
We will talk about fabric at our first class.
Basically, we will use 4 different fabrics for our quilt. The amount is dependent on what size you would like to
make.
For the small quilt:
2/3 yd for the background
2/3 yd dark

3/8 yd for second dark
¼ yd for centers of nine patch
¼ yd inner border
½ yd outer border
2/3 yd binding
If you wish to make a bigger quilt we can talk about how much fabric you will need.

Prior to class:
Practice a quarter inch seam by sewing two 2.5"x 5" strips together along the 5" side. The finished piece should measure 4.5" x 5". If your piece is wider than 4.5",  your seam allowance is too narrow. If your piece is narrower, your seam allowance is too wide. Adjust your needle position accordingly accordingly.
