Beginning Quilting Class

Come learn the basics of quilting while constructing a small baby quilt.  You will leave this class knowing how to choose and use thread, needles, cutters and rules, and how to choose the best fabrics for your project.  You will learn how to construct a nine patch and half square triangle blocks and how strip piecing makes block construction easy and fast!  All of this is done while meeting new people and enjoying being a part of the quilt community in a small group.  Space is limited so sign up soon!  Only 8 seats available.

Fabric
If you want to make the sample quilt, let us know and we will make up a kit for you.  For your own fabric choices, this is what you will need:
Medium for background (kit contains light blue)  2/3 yd
One dark for nine patch and half square triangle patch (kit contains dark blue) 2/3 yd
One dark for monkey wrench (kit contains red) 3/8 yd
Centers of blocks (kit contains white) 1/4 yd
Inner border 1/4 yd
Outer border 1/2 yd
Binding fabric 2/3 yd

Tools
Sewing machine and a working knowledge of it
1/4 inch presser foot or knowledge of how to adjust your needle position for a 1/4 seam.  A walking foot is helpful but optional.
100% cotton thread in light grey or off white-I recommend Aurifil brand.
2 or more full bobbins   
70/10 or 80/12 size machine sewing needles
Straight pins
Rulers and Cutters
6 1/2"  x 12" acrylic ruler with a 45 degree angle line on it
Creative Grids 9" Seam ruler
6.5" Bloc-Loc square up ruler (optional)
18" x 24" cutting mat
Rotary cutter with a sharp blade

Prior to class:
Practice a quarter inch seam by sewing two 2.5"x 5" strips together along the 5" side. The finished piece should measure 4.5" x 5". If your piece is wider than 4.5",  your seam allowance is too narrow. If your piece is narrower, your seam allowance is too wide. Adjust your needle position accordingly accordingly.
